I have quite a few files with that here, and MC v11.1.77 is apparently unable to read any of them correctly - all Cyrillic letters in the tags show up as question marks (spaces are displayed right, though). Two other players show the tags correctly: Quod Libet, which tagged the files in the first place, and wxMusik.
I also glanced inside the files with a hex editor, and the tags look spec-compliant, with 0x01 UTF-16 markers in place and little-endian Unicode BOMs (0xFF 0xFE). Anyway, it reads it as UTF-16 alright (since it does display the correct number of characters), it just seems that it gets the character codes wrong somehow (but even then, spaces work... weird).

Is it possible the font you're using in MC doesn't support those characters?

I am quite sure it's not the font and is, in fact, ID3-specific, because Ogg Vorbis files with Cyrillic tags display just fine in the very same list (and obviously with the same font).
I can send the headers of the MP3 files affected (the first kilobyte should be enough, right?) if you cannot reproduce this.

An entire file would be even better. The address is matt at jriver.com.
Thanks!

I've seen some UTF-related entries in the changelogs and decided to give it a try, in case that was the fix. Well... 11.1.83 still doesn't read the tags correctly.

Please try build 89.

Just did; it still doesn't work.
-
Please send a file that doesn't work as expected to matt @ jriver.com
Thanks.

That would be a few hundred files, including the one I had sent to you in reply to the first request. None still work. I've sent another, different file just in case.
