Title: 11.1.83 beta install issue
Post by: jagdriver on December 19, 2005, 03:39:30 pm
I installed the latest beta this weekend to my non-Web enabled media server. Before I did, however, I ran the wmfdist90.exe package (downloaded previously) again.

Though these requisite M$ files are aboard my PC, your installation procedure still posts the following message:

----------------------------------------------------
Failed to download from
http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/redirects/MC/v11/redirect.pl?type=WMFInstaller902k&prodname=Media Center&version=11.0.316
Server returned: 0

blah, blah, blah...
----------------------------------------------------

Is there a workaround? Can't your installtion procedure perform a "If not exist {name.DLL} then..." file check before turning things over to some hardcoded WWW download?(http://)

Do I specifically need the wmfdist902k.exe package?

You should be able to ignore the error and continue installation. (click "Continue" or similar)

Right... but then isn't WMA playback not available?

I suppose this is no biggie in the overall scheme of things, but I would hope that the matter will be addressed in a subsequent beta.

To a newbie in particular, this sort of error messgae can be really disconcerting. I would expect that not all MCers hang out here on the forum.

You should be able to play standard WMA and WMV files alright.

The latest runtimes should only be needed for DRM playback and very new content.

Thx for the clarification.

I hope that an eventual RC version will not pose the same issue.
