Title: Purchasing a license via paypal requires credit card?
Post by: Maya on January 08, 2006, 03:15:49 pm
Hi,

I've just tried to pay the $40 to get a license. However, paypal tells me that it need a credit card for making the tranfer (from germany). Is it possible to get a license without one or is it required. As here in germany credit cards are not as widely spread as in the US it would prevent someone (i.e. me :) ) from getting a license...

Thanks for your help.

Hi Maya,

Message from Holland. I just come back from Winterberg. Good skiing weekend.
To my knowledge you need a credit card for making paypal.

PayPal Accepts A Cash Payment (Like You Send PayPal Money) Via Check

I Have A Few Customers Who Pay PayPal Thru A Check And Once Money Is In there Account They Can Use The Money.

I Have Never Done It My Self And Not Sure How Or If That Will Work Outside Of The US.

If You Do Not Have A Visa\Mastercard It Is Hard To Buy Anything On The Internet.

From There WebSite

Choose to pay using your credit card, debit card, or bank account

When You Add A Bank Account They Deposit Two Small Amount In It. And The You Review Your Account Like 4 Working Days Later You Will See Them Then Go Back A Validate The Account. Then Money Can Be Drawn Directly From Your Bank Account.

Dell, And Now Yahoo Take PayPal... So PayPal Has Grown Up A Bit In The Past Few Years. I think E-Bay.Com Bought Them Like 4-5 Years Ago.

I'm currious as to what people do use in Germany if not credit or debit cards.
Practically Everyones got one here in the UK!

Hm, most of the people I know do not have a Visa, Mastercard or anything else other then a EC-card which can not be used on the net. But than again, maybe I do not know the "right" caste :D

Yes, I know. I did exactly that and tried to pay the $40 but got the message that the reciever either does not accept e-cheques (sp?) or something like that. I especially opened the paypal account for being able to get MC :D

Everyone I know uses an EC-card which is only useful in the EU. Approx. 0,0001% of the people I know are using a credit card (i.e. Visa, Master and so on).

Instead of an e-check, make a deposit directly to your PayPal account, so that you are carrying at least a $40 balance. Then when you try to purchase, PayPal will ask where you want the funds to come from, and one option is the balance in your account. Use that.

Last Time I Was In Germany 1988 I Had Many German Friends (And Part Of My Moms Family Lives There). They All Had Visa And Master Cards, Not that they used them a whole lot, mostly cash.

I Know the two Guest houses I went to (all the time) took them.

Thats quite intriging!  I'd never heard of an EC card!
Maybe it's to do with the euro and that we don't have it here yet.
 :)
So you learn something every day!

EC either means "Electronic Cash" or "euro cheque". Most the plastic used here for getting money from an ATM or paying electronically is an EC card.

In Germany Bank costs are higher than in other countrys.
I live in Holland, and get my money from all my customers in the world by bank transaction.
But not from germany. They still pay with cheque. And not the electronic one, but the one on paper.

In the winter I go to Germany every weekend.
It is hardly impossible to pay with EC Card.
In the rest of western Europe you can pay allmost everything with this card (PIN code card).

EC Card is in the most countrys in Europe free for collecting money out of the wall.
Credit Cards are very, very expensive. You have to pay costs for every transaction.

So,
EC card, free to use. Allmost everywhere possible to pay (even costs like < € 1,-)
Credit Card, very expensive. Not possible to pay in every store or Restaurant etc.

EC card = Euro Check card. Started out as an i.d. for (euro) checks and is now like our debit cards.
