thought i downloaded the latest beta version.

why was i wearing spectacles?

Guess thats because it's still considered a beta,
so they've left it at the last known reliable beta,
which isn't to say the current build isn't reliable.
It does say underneath
"More recent versions may be found on the MC board at Interact. "

Maybe a link could be given to this board...
