Title: Locate Functionnality VOTE
Post by: AndromAK on January 17, 2006, 04:29:49 am
In echo to this topic:
Locate functionality changed? (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=30993.0)

I really think the new behaviour isn't very usefull.
I would like a feedback from users to know if I am the only one who really don't like the new way it works.

Personally I prefer it as it is now (I think).
I dont like being jumped around all the time. At least with the way it is now, we just have to remove the search and you're still in the same place.

Something I'd love to see is, if you have an album, or files selected from the bottom list while in the library view, and change to panes view, then the selection would be remembered and the appropriate values in the panes would also be highlighted. That would be greeeeeeeeat.

It's works fine for my uses.... If I'm in playing Now, and I click on Locate Artist, or Album, It goes to Audio and Shows me the Artist or Albums in the Panes....

Now If it wouold open and the Top would be thumbnails instead of the Pane, that would be cool!

I really hope that people at JRiver work on this "bug".

View schemes are a great thing in MC. I can predefine lots of useful media lists categorized by my personal criterias.

Sometimes, when surfing in view schemes I want to get all entries of the currently selected artist, album, genre etc.

Since a few builds they removed this function! Now I always must start playing the current selection, then jump to Playing now, then perform the locate-function! That's horrible!

Please bring it back or better, let's have both options - the current and the previous.

But don't just do nothing! :'(

Locate is in a half-way house till it gets a making over...most probably in v12.

From what i understood from the previous thread on this topic.

hit_ny, which previous thread are you referring to? In the thread mentioned at the top of this page, Matt said:
Ctrl+F and locate don't jump views now if you're at the library.  This was one of the changes when deemphasizing an all media view.
And that's the only input from any moderator/admin...

I did not use this functionality before changes, so can't comment on what there was, but I would like the Locate functionality to locate (whatever I am looking for - be it Album, Artist, People, Mood, Bitrate or Resolution) within all library. Ideally user would be presented with two choices:

Locate (in Library)->[whatever_you're_locating], and
Locate (in current view)->[whatever_you're_locating],

just like Locate->On Disc (inside Media Center) vs. Locate->On Disc (external)

The thread mentioned by the parent poster right at the top of the page.

I read into Matt's comment that they were moving towards a system that could make the searches more relevant based on the context of the search. I felt it was not complete yet and they would address it again in v12.

Did i read too much?  :)

I'd agree that the new behaviour is not useful.  A more cutomizable approach would be best, but in the interim I'd just love to have the old locate functionality back.
