Hi,
I've just got rid of an old machine of mine to a friend who found MC on it and wants to buy it - the problem is the version on there is licensed to myself (careless I know). He is keen to own his own copy (because he's a decent guy like that), but can't figure out how to unregister it from me to register it for himself.
Is there an faq I haven't found?
Cheers

I think changing the computer name might do that. Some users have made MC unregistered accidentally by changing the computer name. Try to start MC once after the name change. It should be unregistered now.
The name can be changed back before buying the new license. The computer name is here in Windows XP: Control Panel > System > Computer Name > Change...
If that does not work some registry cleaning may be needed. I have posted instructions here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=26917.0

It is always best to format and re-install windows on a computer you sell.
What Alex B said sometimes (maybe all the time) works.

That's true. The new user would have a clean OS without any possible conflicts or other problems. On the other hand, the old installation may contain tons of Windows and driver updates that are needed. Finding and installing them again would be time-consuming and difficult.
I am not saying anything about legal things. I suppose the original OS license (OS disc/sticker/certificate/what ever) follows the PC.
