Title: cannot open http://www.jrmediacenter.com/
Post by: maxxsid on January 27, 2006, 06:43:10 pm
Hello,
Is this just me or the site is down?
I can't open http://www.jrmediacenter.com/ for a couple of days.
yabb.jriver.com
ftp
http://accessories.jrmediacenter.com/mediacenter/accessories.php
open OK
but not the home page.
I checked at work - all OK there. Could be just a coincedence...
Was it (is it) down?
Thanks!

max

Sometimes ISP's accidently block something useful when blocking a range of IP addresses,
might be worth sending yours an email.

True, but sometimes the internet brakes, and when it does the Hostname lookup does not work correctly and a direct IP address sometimes works.

I connected one of the computers directly to the internet (without the router) - all works. Put the router back - jrmediacenter.com doesn't work again... :(((
Found another site which wouldn't load - Firefox download page!
weird indeed..

nope..
http://198.73.82.133/ doesn't work
the other one does..

I followed someones recommendation and changed MTU of the router to 1249 (from 1500).. didn't help.

This is soooo weird..
why jrmediacenter.com ??

have you been editing your host file?

it won't do any harm to check anyway...

drop the file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts onto an open notepad window to view its contents

it's default state in like so...

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.

Problem solved...
For some reason jrmediacenter.com didn't like my IP address. I switched off DHCP on my router for a few minutes to let it renew for sure.. it renewed and after that everything worked just fine..
still weird.. why jrmediacenter.com and only jrmediacenter.com?

Sounds like an internet routing problem to me.
