Title: Adding new Data File types to manage?
Post by: drosoph on January 31, 2006, 09:41:20 am
I work with some crazy file extensions and I would like to add them into MC so that I can manage them just as I do PDF, Excel, and Word files.   Is there a way to do this that is easy, a script to do so ... I believe it requires som registry changes and something else ??

It's not officially supported, but you can try editing the FileAssocations.xml file in MC\Data\Default Resources.

By the way, one of the things that modifying the File Associations file accomplishes is c=allowing the user to play specialized media types like ratDVD's.  As long as you do not associate these "Data" type extensions with MC11, MC11 will open up the file in Media Player, Zoom Player or anything else that will support that file association.  It works quite well.  The only kludge has been the inability to directly assign cover art to the files without initially making MC11 think that it was a video file.
