Hello folks,
I for myself, using MC since years to sort, rip, convert and play my music..asking in all this time periodic for a "quick" headphone and prelisten feature...like to know what others think about that.
I think it shoudn't be soooo difficult to implement this, cause "zone management" is now functioning in a kind of LONG way to do this.
What about the option of config. the "doubleklick" to play just one file in a different zone?that would be enough, to fullfill the basics.
I have to say that I'd love to use this wonderful program in my pub, at my partys and and and...still using at the moment ..traktor, combined with the herkules dj console...too complicatet for the other people ..to quick switch "wished" music.
I wonder that no programmer of You ever had a party...and using Your own software, having a drink, and beeing asked to play....lalalaala...
thx yooz

Sorry, I'm not interested :)
But! It would be nice if there were a party mode that actually locked MC down to basic functions like play, pause, switch tracks and all read-only.

Yes!! Many times I have asked for a couple of DJ basics.
I have the feeling it does not have priority, since there are to little of use wanting this.
If MC would pick it up I will be a serious beta tester!!
Marty3D:
There is a party mode available! Under menu option View select Party Mode.

Yep , this would be nice to play with..
..thing is you need 2 soundcards for this right ?
-
Well, it works to some extend when I use my external audigy on my laptop together with zones, but it is not that perfect...
Extended DJ functionality is also on my wishlist since Media Jukebox 8. Posted here very often...
Perhaps we have a chance for that on version 12??
Thanks

I also use zones for this at the moment.
But it's too complicated.
So:
Would be great to have such a feature in MC.
Maybe from the context menu (something like 'pre-listen' file)

Yes.

If you've got just 2 zones, then isn't control-t is quick
enough to toggle between them and queue something up for the
headphones?

Nope! You could even have additional troubles by using more than one sound card (latency, etc.). Just download Traktor DJ Studio and have a look - the programm seems very complicated at first, but it's really quite easy to use once you got the hang of it. If you want to use it "seriously", you'll need a so-called "USB controller" (looks like a mixing concole, but is in fact an input device).
All you need for DJing is a modern soundcard with front/rear output. I had some old SB Live's lying around, and these worked wonderful with Traktor.
I guess the functionality would be quite easy to implement into MC - it's very similar to the already built-in zone functionality. All it would take would be some additional special shortcut keys or something like a "DJ mode". This kind of functionality would take MC to a whole new level, and make it more interesting for a larger audience, IMHO. It would be interesting to have someone from JRiver comment on this topic.

The Only Parties I Have Now Are From Flash Backs.

I have several zones at home powered by one soundcard. Media Center makes it easy to preview a song on phones if I want.
Ctrl+T and then double-click. You can also right-click the "DSP" button to quickly pick a zone.
-
Hi Matt,
what kind of sound card do you have that supports multiple zones?

Hi Matt,

With MC, almost any modern soundcard will support multiple zones. I'm using an M-Audio 2496 at home and a Prodigy 7.1 at work and they both work well.
The tricky part is finding a soundcard that will expose each set of lines (SPDIF, WaveOut, etc.) as a different device to Windows. This won't matter to MC, but it matters to Windows and most other programs. This is the main reason I'm still using the M-Audio card at home -- it allows me to easily switch the default Windows output between WaveOut (phones) and SPDIF (amp).

Matt,
initially this thread was about additional DJ functionality.
Can we expect some enhancements .. in MC 12 maybe??

I think the Party Mode should go back to what it is meant for: a safe environment for random people to mess w/ MC without ANY alteration to the library, files, and settings.
There are WAY too many things that one can still mess with under the "party mode"
Please, please, please, reconfigure the Party Mode!! :)
This is one of the last things from the older Media Jukebox / Media Center versions that still bothers me because it still doesnt work properly and has not been totally addressed.
My suggestion would be to totally grey out:
-EVERY menu/selection/right click menu/action window component
EXCEPT:
-Search
-Playists (make them read-only)
-Tree roots (library browser) and submenus
-Play/Stop/Next/Back/FF/RW
-'Add to Playing Now' selections.
Any other comments/suggestions about this topic? I might start a new thread on changing the party mode infrastructure. THANK YOU!

I have to agree.
Party mode should be much more "locked down."

Go ahead and start a new thread, I too have some wishes for this one.

Done.

Very interesting thread.
I have a laptop and an external audigy... could play around with the idea. Although matt's solution of using SPIDF/ wave out seems the most elegant. Not sure if my audigy NX can do that though.
