I am in the process of installing MC on a dedicated PC. Installed the flac plug in that is now available. Importing the music would import all but flac files. Checked that the flac extension was ticked tried again - no luck. Upgraded to 11.1 and flac support seems to have disappeared altogether however the flac files do exist and are marked as MC files. In the earlier versions of MC have installed flac as an external encoder. What am I doing wrong?

Did you install only the encoder plugin? The decoder plugin is needed for importing, playback and tag reading & writing.
Install or reinstall the latest FLAC decoder and encoder plugins from Scot Thompson's FLAC plugins page: http://members.cox.net/scot.thompson.

Yup, installed the FLAC frontend for windows and downloaded the plugin again. Plugin appears ok in the encoding options. When I try to import the audio files FLAC does not appear in the file associations list. What am I doing wrong?

Is the decoder plug-in installed? What version is it? Did you get it from scthom's site?

Here is the direct link:

- install or reinstall

Sorry to butt in here.
Under Plug-in Manager where it is Encoder and Input (I know Input is correct term) wouldn't it be clearer if it were Encoder and Decoder?
Only for us that are less computer literate (not to say thats whats going on here)
I know I was slightly confused the first time I was dealing with it.
My apologies if I'm way off!

I see what you're saying and I agree. I suppose not all "Input" plugins would have to be "Decoders". If you know what I mean. There may be some file types that don't require decoding, just inputting.
