Hi!
Is there a way to play wavpack (.wv) encoded files? If yes, how should i set it up? There seems to be several plugins for wavpack but not one for MC. Tried to use the Winamp-plugin in MC but it didn't work, well... actually MC recognises the plugin as "WavPack Player v2.3(x86). But MC does not recognize the files (.wv) at all. I know there's an option in the library import for Wavpack and yes I managed to import some wavpack files but they did not play (this was before the plugin installation mentioned above). I saw the wv-files i the library once and then they disappeared (from the library) and have not been able to import them again since.
Any ideas?

Last I talked to David Bryant (author of WavPack), he was considering writing a WavPack plugin for MC. It wouldn't hurt to nudge him along a little. He's a great guy and quite responsive.
Until then, you could convert to APE, WMA lossless, or WAV for use in MC.
Thanks.

WavPack is playable in MC as one of the types played in DirectShow. You need to install the Wavpack DirectShow filter.
From MC 11.1.79 beta thread:
12. NEW: WavPack audio format can be played in MC natively if needed DirectShow filters are installed. For now there is no support for ID3 tag reading/writing.

Hi!
Yes, I've been using APE as my primary format and it works great with MC. Just wanted to try the WavPack format because I have a couple of dts-cds and WavPack seems to have some error robustness (at least according to http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Lossless_comparison#Comparison_Table).
I've downloaded and installed the DirectShow filters mentioned at the WavPack site but that's as far I've managed to go. How can I tell MC to use Direct Show... or is this a hardware thing (Direct Show capable sound card?).

Did you get CoreWavPack-setup_1.0.3.exe from CoreCodec.org?
I am not able to access corecodec.org today so I need to make sure you got the right stuff.

Try this (now it seems to work):
http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=54&release_id=103#r103

Ok!
I installed the codec from corecodec. But what should I do then?

Just import tracks and play them. It should not require other configuration.

The problem is, as I mentioned earlier, that MC recognized and imported the wv-files once after that the files vanished from the library and I have not been able to import them since. Anyway, renamed the wv-files to avi. Now MC recognizes and plays them.

It works fine here.
Maybe your first attempt at importing put the files under Documents instead of Audio. Take a look there. If you find them there, delete them from the library and redo importing (making sure you do not check the "Exclude files previously removed from the library" option).
If importing still fails, please email me a log file of failed imports? Turn on Playback as well as Import log types. My email address is yaobing at jriver dot com

Here is the correct procedure:
Select those files that were previously wrongly imported as data file from Documents folder, and choose Library Tools -> Update Library (from Tags). That will put the files into Audio category.

Yes, this did the trick!
Exellent support, thanks!

Hello,
I followed the procedure and I can play wv files, but have no tag info and on hybrid files MC shows the lossy bitrate.
I use the same DirectShow filter along with WMP Tag Support Extender which allows display and tagging of WavPack, APE, FLAC, and MCP from Windows Media Player.
Sure be nice if MC could support tags in wv files.

I'll agree on that!
BTW I "nudged" the WavPack author (see Matt's reply) and asked him politely to write a plugin for MC.
