Title: Transfer video to Ipod 5th generation
Post by: deflupke on February 11, 2006, 12:30:53 pm
Can I transfer .avi video files to my iPod or do I need to convert it to another format in order to watch it on the iPod?

If converting is needed, how do I do that with MC 11.1 ?

thanks

The iPod supports MP4 video, with an .m4v file extension.  The latest version of iTunes will convert videos, but I'm not sure about MC.

Videora is free and does a good job of converting AVI's and other file types to iPod video format. It requires a tiny bit of adjustment, but it's easy to use and reasonably fast. Check the Videora forums for tips on usage.

Version 11.1.178 transfers videos to the ipod with no problems.

The only issue is that the video must be in a format that the iPod can read.  You can find these specs on the Apple website at http://www.apple.com/ipod/specs.html.  The video formats are

H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.

You can use third party programs such as Videora iPod Converter to convert your video file into an acceptible format. Then import the file into MC and sync with the iPod
