On my left pane I have the option for "Services and Plugins|Library Server." If I click on that, and then Start Server I get:
"02/11/06 14:05:26 - JRiver Library Server Version 1.0.31 starting...
02/11/06 14:05:26 - Trying Port 80
02/11/06 14:05:26 - Starting Auto Detect beacon
02/11/06 14:05:26 - Running on Port 80"
But on my top menu I have "Tools|Advanced Tools|Media Server..." If I click on that, I get a small icon in my tray.
Are the Library Server and the Media Server the same thing? What about the Remote Server mentioned in Tools|Options|Startup? I'm confused by the lingo. Adding to the confusion: "Search for Media Servers" under the "File|Library" menu.
And the help page says: "When Media Server opens, go to File Menu and select Share. To stop Media Server, go to File | Stop Sharing." I don't see those options under File. In fact, I can't even open Media Server, it's just an icon in my taskbar.
I'm trying, in vain, to get my MC home library accessible at work on MC.

Hi There,
Yes, you are right, media server and library server are the same thing. In MC 10 media server was a seperate component, it has been intergrated in 11.x and also added are uPNP server for streaming servers. The lingo has become confused along the way.
When you start MC you can have the media/library server start at the same time, but if you don't want the whole MC running you can start just the media/library server (it puts the icon in the systray)
The Remote server is a webbased interface to enable (simplistic) control via a web browser. Just turn it on and go to http://yourMediaCentrePCsName:PortNumberInSettings
i.e. for my system its http://pictureframe:81
but I find the control to be too limiting and use Promixis NetRemote instead. as an Aside I would love if someone (not me, as I can't develop in C++) wrote a connector between MC and php or Python so we could write kickass webbased interfaces...

Hi,
It looks like your accessing the incorrect component!
Turnn off the server component you've started. Then goto tools -> options click on "startup"
under startup options you'll find "Run Remote Server on Port"
ensure this box is ticked and you've set a valid port... (80 would be sensible)
click ok, to activate the settings
goto a browser and goto http://localhost:%portnumber%
you should get a a simple interface like:
[Home]
Playing Now
Media Library
Controls
Playlists

Remote Server v1.5, JRiver, Daniel Ellison, and Benjamin Sweet

Similar problem here with Library Server. I set port 85 manually. I have a web server on 80.

Hi,
The library server is a component to share your collection of music across your network to other j.rive instances on other computers. By the look of it this is what you're running. What you want to run is the webserver.
This is started by going to tools -> options click on "startup"
under startup options you'll find "Run Remote Server on Port"
ensure this box is ticked and you've set a valid port... (80 would be sensible, unless as in your case, you have a webserver already running on port 80)
click ok, to activate the settings
goto a browser and goto http://localhost:%portnumber%
you should get a a simple interface like:
[Home]
Playing Now
Media Library
Controls
Playlists
(C) 2003, JRiver Inc
Remote Server v1.5, JRiver, Daniel Ellison, and Benjamin Sweet
