Title: OT: Steve Fossett sets solo air distance record
Post by: JimH on February 11, 2006, 05:33:06 pm
Steve Fossett started at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, circled the earth, and landed today around noon our time in Bournemouth, England.  He covered 26,000 miles in about 80 hours.  Solo.

The plane was designed and built by Burt Rutan, who has designed several record setting airplanes, including the first private space ship, SpaceShipOne.  His site is here:

The record Steve Fossett broke today was set in 1986 by Burt's brother, Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager.
