Title: Can DTS WAV track be converted to APE?
Post by: 4BYE on February 17, 2006, 02:21:04 am
Hello,

I would like to know if it's possible to convert a DTS wav track to .ape?
I have no digital connection yet with my AV amplifier so I cannot check.

It would be nice if this is possible since ape files keep their tags.

Thanks,

Theo

I have tried it and it works (if the signal path is bit perfect and the original DTS wave files work as well).

Because the DTS signal is already compressed and very different from standard PCM audio the filesize decreases only slightly (if at all), but as you said, tagging is possible.

I convert my dts wav tracks to lossless wma and it works fine.  You do need a bit perfect path out your SPDIF to be able to play it tho.  But if the dts wav file plays to your external decoder, then the dts wma should work too.
