An annoying bug with MC is when you select any other output than the default directsound device, then the volume slider is not doing anything.
I feel this would require major changes under the hood to implement software volume control instead of just using the "Master" on the windows mixer but I hope this is in plans at least for MC12.

MC has had it a long time.
Click the speaker icon besides the volume slider and select "Internal Volume (audio only)" or select it from the top menu: Player > Volume.

Oh Thanks :-) This should definitely be in the preferences... The access through speaker icon is confusing...

Good point actually, also the menu has been giving me trouble and not staying visible as I try to select one of the options.

Oh thanks, I never looked there... I believe it would be much more intuitive to have that setting in Preferences > Playback
