Title: Recording to PC from Line In
Post by: iajim on February 22, 2006, 07:24:01 pm
I have read thru the whole thread on RIAA & DRM and am wondering if the anti-ripping features which were discussed will inhibit recording to the PC via line-in from my AVR if from a protected CD.

You should have no trouble  recording from line in as far as DRM goes, but you will be recording an analog signal.

This is true with current computers.  The RIAA (et all) are of course trying to put a stop to this with their A-Hole legislation (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20051218-5797.html) (I'm not making that name up) though.  Even if they manage to get this draconian law passed, we could have relief from the Supreme Court (as similar attempts in the past to prevent us from dubbing analog songs off of the radio and recording with analog VCRs all failed).
