I think there used to be a feature, in an older version, where in a playlist you could "remove order", thus turning the list into a set (in the mathematical sense of the word). This was very useful. Could it be brought back?
-
if you 'remove' the order, they still gotta be ordered in some default way, no?
so, then, to my mind, the list would always open in that default order...
so, can't you set the sorting the way you want, then use 'update order' to always have the playlist in the order you'd like?
I'm most probably not getting what you mean by "turning the list into a set" as I never was much of a mathmatician :)
-
Yes, they would be ordered it some way, and that way would be determined in the same way as it is determined for smartlists: using the "Sorting" information from the "Customize Current View" dialog box.
The reason that clicking "update order" isn't helpful is that I would have to remember to do that every time I add a song to a playlist.
(By the way, in mathematics, a set is an unordered collection of things.)

OK, all makes sense now.
I suppose for now, the only way round is the long way, using smartlists/viewschemes and custom library fields.
still not ideal because of the tagging work involved there too, and no "send to... > playlist" option.
I can see it's usefullness, but it's not something I can't live without.
Now is not the best time to be asking about such things, with v11.1 as near completion as it's going to be.
I suggest bumping this thread again when v12 development kicks off. See what kind of response you get. You never know....
-
Fair enough. But can you confirm that this feature used to exist and was dropped somewhere along the line?
-
Hey Sol,
It was in v9 from memory then it got changed in later versions. I'm using view schemas to work past that.
-
Thanks Skippy. I'll have to give view schemes a try.
