Title: "Stop: Fadeout" and "Seek: Smooth" don't work for AAC files
Post by: Solomon on February 23, 2006, 04:14:48 pm
AAC (M4A) files don't fade out when you hit the stop button, and don't crossfade when you slide the position slider.

This one actually bit me in public the other night - I was the DJ for a dance competition, and I was supposed to fade out the music after about a minute into each song.  So, I set my playback options such that the Stop behavior was "Fadeout (slow)", so that I could just hit one button instead of having to turn down the volume by hand.  But, lo and behold, I played an AAC file, and when I hit stop, the music stopped abruptly, which caused lots of the competitors and judges to shoot me dirty looks.  :)

Thoughts on this?

Only files played through the native JRiver engine can support DSP, visualizations, cross-fading, ASIO, etc.

It may be possible to get AAC to play natively if you have DirectShow filters installed.  Otherwise, AAC will be played through the QuickTime engine.
