Title: jrtools.dll is hanging my install
Post by: jgreen on February 27, 2006, 06:49:02 pm
Anyone know what's different about installing 11.1.131 vs 11.1.130?  .130 installed just fine but .131 is hanging after the license agreement.  More than likely, it is my ZoneAlarm Pro preventing something, but what?  And why did .130 go through okay?

In the meantime, 11.1.130 works just great. . .

I can't think of anything that changed.

Try a reboot and then install.  Maybe something didn't properly unload so it's still hanging on to JRTools.dll.

Yes, something was, thanks.  Never figured out what, but a reboot allowed 11.1.133 to install.

Having the same trouble.  It's been happening since 11.1.30, I think.  I believe, though I'm not 100% sure that if I run MC11, I can't install an upgrade.  If I reboot, it works fine.

It seemed that way to me, too, but 11.1.135 installed without argument over .133, even when .133 had been running extensively.  Go figure.

Yeah, I also got 11.1.135 loaded without any trouble at all.

An update: For the past four builds, including 11.1.40, I've had the same trouble as before.  Sometimes it installs properly, sometimes it hangs.

No such trouble with .135, .136 or .139.

Webroot Window Washer, v4.7.  That thing is way more trouble than it's worth.  Good call.

Jim,

I sent jrgreen a private message about things I had running in my background.  Comparing what he had to what I had.  It appears we both have Webroot Window Washer.  It may or may not be the root cause of our particular problem.

I went ahead and tried to reinstall 11.1.40 with Webroot running, and it hung.  But, I did it after pulling out Webroot and it got hung up as well.  It's doubtful it has anything to do with it.

Did you uninstall it AND reboot?

I have now, and it's still hanging.  I'm pretty sure it's something within my computer causing the problem, and not systemic within MC11.   It's just a matter of figuring out just what's going on.

I'm not entirely sure it's jrtools.dll that's causing my particular problem.  I could seeing a seperate issue entirely.

It's probably worth reading this thread and testing out your hardware (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=31488.msg216483#msg216483).  If it passes, maybe a nuke/pave.

I've looked over the thread, and am pretty sure it's not my root cause.  I can install lots of other things without issue.  The only thing I have trouble with is the updates of MC11.   So I figured the problem would be a bit more localized than that.

I am getting a new system within the month, though, so this (hopefully) will be dealt with then if I can't figure out what's causing it.
