I need a simple way to set IN and Out points for an MP3. This could also be used for video files I'm sure too.
Here is my workflow:
I rip all my CD's to separate MP3 tracks. I have about 90K tracks. There are some tracks with opening or closing applause or MC intros that I don't want to play when I'm DJing. Before I get to the DJ booth, and from within MC, I'd like to listen to a track and set the IN and OUT points... essentially creating a virtual envelope within the track to play. Ideally, I would like to specify the fade in and out characteristics too, but this is just gratuitously fun and not a strict requirement.
I'm aware that CUE files may offer some of this functionality today, but frankly this sounds like a LOT of work for something that is conceptually very simple. If I wanted multiple different virtual envelopes, then maybe I'd be willing to invest in figuring out how to write a CUE file, but for what I want I expect that it could best be served by letting MC create a couple of custom ID3 tags and having MC respect them on playback, in the same way that it sets and respects the sound volume leveling info. It needs to be a tag on the file so it's portable across my systems (desktop for main library, laptop for what I bring to DJ with).
Thanks,
Jeff

Currently the playback range field is not user editable.
There's a little workaround where you export to an MPL playlist, add "Playback Range" values for any song that needs it, and then play that playlist.
A future version may make playback range editable, but to do it right it'll require a bit of UI work.

I would like to throw my support for this to be included in future upgrades.

OK, I give... what is the syntax for the "Playback Range" line in the MPL file? what is the unit of measure? I can't find any mention of it in this forum yet. What is the ",333333" option that i see?
By the way, dragging and dropping to import the one song playlist I've created does not work. Doing a context menu in Explorer Media Center > Import does work, although when I look at the tag info the playback range attribute is still blank.
Thanks,
Jeff
