Title: MC 11.1 after XP installation
Post by: Jaqqe on March 02, 2006, 04:42:08 am
Hi,
Ever since I installed Windows XP MC is usable for music listening only if no other programs are running. Well,  other programs can be running, but if they are doing anything other than just being open the sound in MC is clicking and cutting off all the time. Also whenever I start whatever little or big program the music is sure to halt several times during that other programs startup. Never had this problem with w2k. I have had several MC versions since XP upgrade.

Any ideas?

Yes and yes.

Onboard audio, need to check the driver situation. I now have the same I had with w2k.

Installed latest drivers and if nothing, it only got worse...

hate it when that happens :(

any idea what chipset is on your motherboard?
older VIA chipsets were notorious for causing audio problems, and sometimes, installing the 4in1 driver package can help.

how about WMP? or a.n.other media player? do you see the same behaviour there too?

Another thought was, how did you install XP, clean install or upgrade?

I'll have to check this at home, but the motherboard is most likely a Abit AT7 Max2 (VIA KT400) .

have not tried other players. Will try.

Clean XP install.

4in1 isntallation did not help. Same thing in WMP.
I guess I'll just have to live with this.

Seems that all that is needed is moving the mouse for the clipping to start.

If you have Via chipset, try a google search for latency problems.  Something can be adjusted in the BIOS, as I recall.

Did Google search and tried to understand the search results, but did really not. I don't inderstand if I should be looking for instructions on how to change something in the BIOS or some driver updates or what...

Look for a latency setting in the BIOS.  Google can tell you a lot more about the problem if you spend some time on it.
