Title: Skipping playback over network
Post by: rpalmer68 on March 02, 2006, 11:39:56 pm
In the last few builds I've found playback of WMA lossless files off the Library server over my wireless LAN have started to skip and Jump at times.

Hardware is unchanged and I have tested my Wireless LAN and throughput is at least 20Mbps, which is where it normallys sits.

As I said this has only started happenign in the last 5 or so builds.

This is probably a network issue.  Try rebooting all hardware.

I don't know if this is still the case, but in previous versions I found that sometimes my mtu settings would get changed on various network interface cards and it would cause stuttering.

I think I settled on a mtu of 1500, but I'd have to check.

I am getting stuttering of my avi files all of the sudden when playing networked files, AND Library Server takes forever to load files that play instantly as networked files.

I am new to Media center and have the same problems playing over a network. Showshifter does not have this problem but the've went bust, hence trying new software.

Any tips would be helpful, but in language that an idiot would understand.

Cheers.

I have just changed my playback setting from DirectSound to ASIO and the skipping etc have stopped.

In addition to the skipping I was finding that the sound every now and then would get distorted, and once even changed pitch!

With ASIO the problems seem to have gone, although this isn't really a solution for me as I'm running an m-audio Delta 1010LT with 3 zones, so can't run ASIO for all the zones.

I noticed the thread on POP stec also seems to relate to the direct sound output.... could there be a problem here somewhere?

Cheers
