Title: AlexB: Library Sorting
Post by: Alex B on March 13, 2006, 05:40:08 pm
13. Changed: The file list below a grouping of tiles uses the same settings as a file list below the panes.

Does this fix the playback order problem I reported in the 143 thread?

I think so.

I think so.

I am sorry to say, but it didn't fix the problem. Now the bottom list shows the same incorrect playback order I reported earlier and the list doesn't obey the defined view sorting at all:

Alex,

Try a right-click "Customize Current View" on the bottom list.  The sorting you pick there should apply to the files inside the tiles as well.

Files underneath groupings use the same sorting as the files underneath the panes.

I have had this sorting selected all the time:

I removed and returned an item and resaved the sorting. That didn't change anything.

Here is my report from the 143 thread:

Here is a playback order bug, which I can repeatedly reproduce:

When I right-click an album tile and select Play MC may send the album in incorrect track order to the Playing Now if the current view contains image files besides the music files.

For example, this album:

plays always in this order:

The image files are correctly displayed in a slide show, but the track order is apparently arbitrary. However, if the album files are send to Playing Now again the track order is exactly the same for some reason.

Here is an XML library data export of the album files: U2_Boy.mpl (http://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/alexb/temp/U2_Boy.mpl)

The tiles are set to use the A-Z view order and the bottom list uses this sorting:

In the same view scheme some other albums with image files play in the correct track order. I have tried, but I can't find a reason for the different behavior.

It almost seems like shuffle mode is on.

Does it shuffle if you only have audio in the view or only images?  Is it only when both are there?

If you manually pick all the files from the list and do right-click > Play, does it make a difference?

Thanks.

Sorting seems a little messed up on my machine too. I have it set to sort by date/artist/album, but for some reason it's sorting by genre first.

Actually, it does not suffle because the order is always the same. This happens with about 500 albums of over 2000 (the actual number can be a lot more or less. I have checked only a few so far.)

It seems to happen only with the all media view (the view scheme doesn't have a Media Type defined).

It plays the files in the list order. If I reorder the files first MC uses that order.

- the order cannot be changed with any sorting in Customize Current View. As a test I removed all other items except "Track #", but that couldn't change the list order.

So is this to say that your "All Media" view scheme isn't supporting customization of sorting using "Customize Current View".

Do other views work?  If you leave the view and come back after customization does it kick in?

Thanks for helping get to the bottom of this.

I think I found a reason for the odd behavior:

I had this rule in the view scheme options (pick files to show):

~sort=[Album Artist (auto)],[Album]

Removing it fixed the problem.

Hmm, this screws things up a bit.

I used to randomize the sorting in the main view scheme settings so that the album covers would show up randomly when viewing the tiles and then I would sort the files at bottom by rating.  Now with the latest build, this is being overwritten by the view scheme rules.

 Can't they be separate?

In general, is sorting something that should not be included in the view scheme rules anymore?

Using "Customize Current View" is the recommended way to set sorting.
