Title: New Forum
Post by: JimH on September 19, 2002, 12:00:04 pm
Don't post anything in this forum that you mind losing for about half an hour.  We're changing horses in mid-stream.  This forum may be history.

The new forum will require a login and password.  You will be able to read but not write unless you have an account.

Looks like Hydrogen...Very nice.

Avatars: How do I get a custom one on the board if I don't have a website or URL? With Hydrogen you can download the image to their server. What is the max image size (in pixels)?
Thanks - Xenno

Groovy. Nice work on the changeover.

I would like more Profile options, specifically the ability to avoid people's posted images/animations, etc. They can be a pain when on dialup.

This is certainly a pleasant surprise.  Thanks, JRiver, for your continuing responsive to your users' requests.

Just curious as to why I wasn't able to login under my old user name.  Attempts to use "Shelly" returned an error message "no such user name".   However, when I tried to reregister with "Shelly", the message received said that the user name was taken.  I had to enter a new email address, as well, as reregistering with the previous email address, resulted in a another error message that the email address belonged to another user.

Drosoph - it carried over most people's totals fine. Sorry about yours, I don't know what happened.

Shelly - you should have received an e-mail with your new password (the old passwords were encrypted, so I  couldn't copy them to the new system).

Hey, it's me. Doof.

I can't seem to log in with my usual password, but it shows that my name is in use. I'm assuming that it's still registered to me. I thought I saw a post about a password being emailed out. I've checked all of my email addresses, but no dice. If passwords are being mailed out, can you send mine to doof @ webryders.net

Thanks.   :D

PS. Love the new forum!!

Check your email (a hotmail account with the word blue in it), and you should have a password. Your data was transferred.

Me again. I tried logging in with the password you gave me, but I'm getting a "Username not found" message.

Any ideas?

I tried replying to your email, but I got it back as undeliverable. My ISP is being a real pain lately. So I'm going to have to respond here.

The email address I had signed up with before doof_dragon@hotmail.com has been deleted. Guess I should have checked it more often. I only used it in times when I wasn't sure if I'd wind up with lots of spam in my box. :P

Hi Doof  (this is me, John Gateley )

Your account works fine (as you can tell from this).
The account name is "doof" not "Doof", that's the only think I can think of.

No idea why my email failed ... it shouldn't do that.

Is it a full moon tonight?

Ok, that's got it. It was the capitalization thing.  :D

So anyway... I love the new forum. Although it's a little slow to display topics and threads. Is that something that will get faster once you get the kinks work out?

PhatRabt, Chico (and others)

The only posts counted from the old forum are those that you made while actually logged in. My count is really low too, because I never logged in on the old system. Chico - I couldn't even find login data for you  on the old system.

Does this explain things?

Cool, got that straight.

Now, I have some questions. I don't know the capabilities of this software except for what I see as a user (and moderator) so here goes...

Is it possible to add Windows Messenger to the list of IM clients in your profile?

Um... I guess that's it. :P

Some sugestions:
Make more topics like questions about files format, sound quality, off-topic, encoders, outside news.

But looking very good this new forum, congratulations.

One thing I don't like...

If you highlight text and apply one of the styles from the toolbar, the text is REPLACED with the tags instead of having the tags placed around the text which is what the old board did.

Any possibility of bumping up max avatar dims to 100x100 (Hydrogen default). Kasumi looks much better at that size. At 65 x 65 she looks pale & gaunt.

I don't normally do this but......

My first girpe about this forum:

Any possibilty to add the arrows to jump back to the top of thread like Audio Illumination? (I know you have seen this) Makes getting back to the main forum easier. Less scrolling makes using the boards much more pleasant.

I know you can forum jump, but the arrows are just a bit handier.

Listening to: 'Sabrosa' from 'Ill Communication' by 'The Beastie Boys' on Media Jukebox

Actually, forum jump isn't pointed at the right thing. You can click it, but it stays right in the same thread. Not back to the forum where the thread is located.

Please, please, please allow avatar elimination from Profile - some folks have their avatars hosted on sites that make multiple efforts to set cookies just because of the HTTP connection  :'(

The new forum seems a lot more powerful than the old.  My complaint is that the "table" format it is presented in is very inefficient.  Far too few posts show on my screen, far too many lines and other garbage.  I think the added benefits clearly outweigh this, but I would prefer a more compact presentation.

John Gateley: thanks for the response. Handled it politely with a private message. BTW, I'm using Mozilla 1.2a. I was more concerned about folks - I can handle my cookies  :)

Off-topic sidenote: IE 6's cookie handling setup is the only thing I miss from Mozilla. Just happy that this new forum is alternative friendly.
