:o
I really never tried MJ before, but I found it by accident via file-sharing. I downloaded it (the tag for it said merely "Media Jukebox 8") and checked it for viruses, and then ran the install.
It installed, but then it did something strange, and ran a second install which said it was patching the program.
When I finally ran the program, it was buggy- kept shutting down on me- and so I checked the registration info and it had blanks instead of entries.
Naturally, I don't trust something like this!!! I deleted it, and downloaded the one from the MJ website (which the buggy one at least linked me to). That one, obviously, runs better.
I just thought the powers that be would like to know that there's a messed-up hacked version out there. On the plus side, it lead me to FINDING this great program (I'm a long-time, fully-paid, registered Music Match Jukebox Owner, but this program's better!) and of course, on the negative side, I'm using various programs now to sweep through my computer and find out what sort of spyware or other crud that bogus version left on my hard drive.
I'm not a fan of piracy, but it really stinks when you think you've got the legitimate article and it turns out to be a copy, or worse, a trojan horse of some kind.
Keep on your toes, guys! And thanks for making MJ! As soon as I can figure out how to pay for it (I don't use credit/debit cards) I'll buy a full version- Though I don't know what to do with my MMJB...
Thanks!

My personal advice for MMJB is to bin it and never look back, MJ is too good :)

I tried first MJ7.2 and then i tried MM and it last only 5 minutes on my pc, don't like that jukebox then i buy MJ7.2. It's really the best jukebox i ever tried.

you won't be sorry with your purchase!
my collection of mp3's spans over 15,000 tracks (1,000+ albums) and MJB is the only thing i have used that can handle it.
i have tried ever other major jukebox out there... nothing compares to MJB!

Welcome ZC,
My guess is that you probably got ahold of one of the 8.0 beta's. They did have some problems with bugs and crashes. Glad you got linked to the real deal! Media Jukebox truly is the best there is, bar none! Also, congradulations on scrapping MMJB.
If you have any questions or problems, you can always come here and get prompt, curtious service.

Wow! Thanks for the welcomes! You've got a heck of a community for this product- That's a really good sign.
My only real problem right now is that I don't use credit/debit cards at all (it's a personal choice!) and that limits my ability to purchase MJ. Do they sell the full version via retail, or do they accept mail-order purchases?
I'd definitely pay for this program- even after just one day using it, I can see it's got the best library organization I've seen in any jukebox- But the purchase page only indicates accepting credit cards. That really bums me out!!!
Any answers? I'd love to know what my choices are!

I think they also take chickens and goats
-
It's credit card only. Sorry.
-
Jim, has there been any thought of using PayPal?
-
Yes. Maybe later.
More systems create more business but more problems. We can't handle more problems.
-
That's disappointing. I love this program, but since I can't send you a money order I'm effectively barred from purchasing it! :(
I suppose I can ask my wife if I can use her credit card (yeah, that's a conversation I'm looking forward to) but without borrowing someone else's card, I'm locked out as a customer- despite my having the money and the desire to give it to you.
PayPal would be fair. I can get money into a PayPal account... I just don't use plastic.
So no retail??? A product this good isn't available at my local Circuit City or Best Buy??? That's surprising to me.
I'll figure something out. Maybe I'll HAVE TO get a darned debit card...
You'd have a LOT more customers if you didn't force us to have plastic to buy your product. I guarantee that. As an example, I've been using MMJB because I bought it in a retail store with cash. That's how they got me in the first place, and they've had me for a while.
I'd hate to have to go back to MMJB now that I've used THIS!!!
Argh!

He Might Be Hiding From The IRS
-
I like it.
dig MJ -- 's 'best 'box
-
I'm not hiding from the IRS! (well, not especially)
I just had some bad experiences with plastic, and thus I banned it. I'd keep a card around, but those bad experiences pretty much wrecked my credit, so there you go. I'm not likely to be a candidate for a new Visa card any time soon.
Some of us DO get into financial hell with a bad turn of events.
But I'm not a penniless hobo, either. I just choose to do all my business with real money, or money orders. That way, there are no hidden charges, no computer screw-ups, no credit fraud, no security risks, and less headaches.
Yeah, I'm something of a throwback. I suppose I'll HAVE to get a debit card if I want to do business on the `net, but I find it odd that- given the existence of PayPal and other such companies- more e-businesses don't find non-plastic ways of doing business.
It would open you to more customers- It may be more to monitor, but isn't a little more work worth it for another batch of customers? We have the money burning holes in our pockets, but no way to get it to you.
Seems kind of a backwards business model to accept ONLY credit cards. If you accepted money orders, I'd have one out to you rather quickly.
Plastic? That's going to be a while...

We've all had a bad experience with Mr. Plastic.
As I said above, we have enough problems to solve without introducing another payment system.
Have the conversation with your wife. It's character building. You'll get a chance to apologize, grovel, who knows what else?

You haven't met my wife!

Wouldn't one of those temporary credit cards (thinking mainly of american express) work to purchase MJ?
It's specificly for online purchases and any unauthorized charges won't be accountable.
quote from the site: Use the American Express Card online, and you won't be held responsible for any unauthorized charges. Period.
-
We don't honor American Express cards. MC or Visa.

Yep, time to suck up and bite the bullet. I wonder, how long would she have you under her thumb? 5-10 years ain't so bad for MJ. ;D
Personally, I use a debit card. Sparingly. I do see a need for J River to try a different method though. Many have asked if there was an alternative way to purchase MJ.

-
ZC, what I would do is look into a prepaid Visa credit card. That way you don't have to worry about anything.
Jim, would you accept them? I assume it would work like a normal credit card.
-
If it says Visa or MC it should work.
I'm closing this thread now.
