Title: What does "Show Stack" exactly do?

Trying to figure out what is happening by having it set!

I have a view scheme "Artworks" with Period>Artist>Gallery set in the Panes.
Selecting an" Artist" I can see all the galleries with paintings of this artist!
Is there a way to select "Gallery" and see all the artists having paintings in that gallery.

I do that now with another with scheme with Gallery>Artist.
Is there a way to combine the 2 view schemes into one? Of course I can add the artist field twice. Has "Show stack" something to do with that?

If you have an artist with multiple albums, you'll see a windmill effect of several covers in a stack.
