Title: Cover Art Retrieval Options
Post by: JMay on March 31, 2006, 05:10:17 pm
Is it possible for future builds to allow a user to select the Tolerance default from Standard to Loose?
More times than not, when the Tolerance level is left in the Standard mode, cover art is not found.

Thanks.

John

My Free Cover Art Finder Plug-in does that

Have you tried it?

I'd like to continue to retrieve Cover Art within Media Center without the need for 3rd party software.
In other words, just exactly as I had originally written.
I'm no software writer by any stretch, but it seems it could be a simple modification.
If Media Center STILL can't find the Cover Art...THEN I'd be more inclined to use your suggestion, or continue searching for & downloading Cover Art on my own as I currently do.

Don't hold your breath, I don't see it changing

I strongly recommend you take King's advice and try some of his plugins. While technically his plugins may be 3rd party software he's been around since before the J River guys learned how to use a keyboard! ;)

The plugins are there to help expand MCs usabillity and they're a cinch to install. Just follow the link at the bottom of King's post.

Jim has been around a tad longer.

I liked the Checkered polyester bell bottoms pants and his high heal shoes he wore.

I still have mine.

I agree that the default should be changeable to loose...

Either through an options item, or better yet, simply remember the setting that was used last.

I prefer to use the retrieve image from within MC, but I too ALWAYS have to do the extra click to change it to loose... it it remembered this it would be great.

so what is the big deal?

is there a reason why you refuse to use a free 3rd party plug-in?

NO big reason,  but the capability is there in MC why not use that, the only issue is the strict vs. Loose setting.

Quite often only the loose mode can find cover art. An occasional wrong picture is not a big deal. It can be replaced or removed easily. Most likely the user would attach the correct image manually anyway. Besides, in my experience usually also the loose mode leaves the image field empty if no match is found. Actually, it should be the default mode since it works better.

In my opinion the "get cover art from internet" rip option could very well have the loose mode available or alternatively it could be the permanently set mode.

If I have understood correctly King's plugin can be used only after ripping.

Not really

It will work on a CD if YADB fills in the fields first, and you put the CDA files in playing now

i just tested it on a cd

it stored the image in the cover art folder, and then i ripped that song from the CD and converted it to mp3 the image was still attached to the new mp3.
