Title: Create a handout list
Post by: ERGE on April 05, 2006, 01:21:31 pm
 ?
Hi Folks

a stupied question you tell me. I know but i'm having no idea. I work with a prog. called DVD Profiler. In this prg is it possible to create a printable list with the image an any information about the film as a handout list for my friends to show wich dvd are mine.
Is it possible to create a sort of this list in MC?

Greatz Eric

Surely, and it's quite flexible as well.

Find whatever view scheme you'd like to "print out" and make sure you are viewing the details list of the files.  Then...

1. Select All (Control-A)

2. Right click --> Edit --> Copy (or just type Control-C)

3. Open Excel (I imagine other spreadsheet type programs would work too).

4. Select the top-left cell and...

5. Right click --> Paste (or type Control-V)

If you then turn on Excel's List functions (Data --> List --> Create List) you can sort by the column headers, easily filter the list, and a bunch of other cool features.  If your program can take CSV files as a data type, Excel (or MC directly if you want) can also easily generate those for you.

I use a program called Gemmico FolderInfo (http://www.gemmico.com/soft/fidesc.htm) to generate an HTML directory listing of my MP3 folders.

I use it because I can customise what I output (ie. DTM, Folder size etc.) Unfortunately I can't include cover art.

That way I can give my friends a list which shows artists, with albums indented below etc.

BTW, I also use DVD Profiler to keep track of my DVDs, it's a great program.

cheers
Rob

You might want to check out the XML Export plugin. IIRC, you can generate some really cool views of your MC library using that and some XSLT transforms.

That's how you generate CSV files from right inside MC as well.  I haven't played too much with the XML export capabilities of MC, but it certainly does look powerful.  I also misread the Parent Post's question... If he was looking to include the Images in the list, then my copy/paste method won't help.  If he was just looking to create a flexible list though, it certainly is easy.

I noticed that this no longer works (copy --> paste track info into Excel).  I know it used to (as I was surprised to learn that it did after using the Export Playlist to ASCII delimited method previously), but it doesn't anymore with recent builds...

It was a nice feature... what happened?   :-\

Glynor--
i just tried this with OO and it works fine, unless I'm missing something.  Usual caveats apply, make a view scheme that excludes lyrics and bios, etc etc etc.

Hmmm... Perhaps I have a field displayed that isn't liked.  I will research more upon my re-arrival home.  Thanks!!

I just copy-pasted succesfully a selection of 55 library fields and 1055 files to Excel.

Only the fields that may contain line breaks are problematic (e.g. Bios and Lyrics, as jgreen said). Each line break will start a new row in Excel.
