Title: slow response with MC running on client

hi,

i am running the latest version of MC (11.1.165) on two laptops.

the spec of the server:

Sony Vaio VGN-FE11S
1.83GHz pentium M T2400 dual core processor
1GB RAM

the spec of the client:

Sony Vaio TX1HP
1.1GHz pentium M processor
512MB RAM

these are connected over a wireless G network with typical connection speeds of 24-36 Mbps.  my music and images are located on an external hard drive which is connected to the server via USB 2.0.

the problem i am having is a slow/sluggish response from MC on the client.  one or two seconds to respond isn't that much of a problem, but sometimes i am waiting 10-15 seconds or more for a response, i.e. when selecting a new track to play.

is this normal, or should i expect a better performance?

Are you doing conversion on the fly? (Check your client settings under tools->options->Library)

yes, i am converting from flac to mp3 as flac isn't supported over the server yet.

well i was converting on the fly, but then i discovered that the latest flac encoder/decoder support streaming flac over the library server, so i installed these and i am no longer converting.

having said this, i am still experiencing slow responses at times from MC on the client.  i am in the processing of reducing the filesize of cover art, which may be part of the problem (a lot of my cover art is 2-3MB in size - i am reducing to around 300-400KB).  but maybe there is another issue

Try files without cover art, do these also have the delay?

i have reduced the size of my artwork and MC is responding better, but is still sluggish at times.  to see a fuller description of my wireless setup and problems i am having with MC over a network, please see this thread:
