Title: Hard to find cover art located!
Post by: avpman on April 09, 2006, 09:02:16 am
After ripping about 700 CD's, I had about 1/3 for which I could not find coverart. I used MC's download and also the Sparta Plugin. However, I found almost all of them by searching on AllMusic.com  The site does require registration for some of the features offered. But NOT for the cover-art. I was amazed by the fact that they had a lot of the really hard to find art.

Searching AllMusic.com is worth the manual investment in time if you're missing cover art. It would be STELLAR if MC could do it automatically. <hint, hint JR>

I also have a lot of luck searching for the artist and album names on Google Images.

Small is better than none at all.  ;D

First i try walmart.com, then amazon.com, then allmusic.com

With the three above sites i am finding about 90% of my cover art, the rest i just google.

Walmart.com is my 1st choice as well.  Their standard size is 500x500 which is perfect.  If I can't find it on walmart.com I go to Amazon.com.  Then google images.  I usually do not use allmusic.com because the size is so small.

THere was a plugin that searched all music.... The mighty Allmusic threatened the author with a Law suite.... If you don't licence the info, you get nabbed.

This site has the best quality cover art: Covers (http://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/vaahteramaki/covers/index.htm). Though, they have only two albums and an universal cover image for all other albums.

 ;D

Seriously, a scanner is a good option. It's nice to have something to do while MC rips.

Don't forget amazon.uk & amazon.de as they sometimes have covers that amazon.com doesn't have. AMG is usually my last choice.

The atagger plugin for MC gets coverart from allmusic.

My process is I try to get art from MC's built-in finder, then for any that are missing I try those with Sparta's finder.  If there's still unfound art then I run those through atagger and settle for the smaller art.

They are quite specific in the Terms of Service:

"You may use the Material online only, and solely for your personal, non-commercial use."

I guess browsers violate their ToS:

"and you may not modify, copy, frame, cache, reproduce, sell, publish, transmit, display or otherwise use any portion of the Material. You may not scrape or otherwise copy our Material without permission."
