hi
can someone please tell me about the process of updating tags in MC (version 11.1.170). when i choose a rating for a track there is a message at the bottom of the screen saying 'saving tag changes (1 remaining)' and then 'done saving tag changes', but then when i go to view the file in question in explorer there is no info showing for rating. i think that this is only a recent problem, because i do have ratings in the tags for nearly all files that i have previously rated. there is a feature in library tools called 'update tags from library' but this doesn't make any difference to the tag info visible in the files i am now tagging. does anyone know why MC isn't automatically updating tags for my FLAC files, or if it is, why they aren't showing up in explorer or other applications?
thanks

It works for me. Have you enabled tag writing in the field specific options?
Also, do you have the latest FLAC encoder and decoder plugins installed? Scthom released new versions yesterday. http://mcplugins.sourceforge.net/

Yeah, Nick, there was a bug with writing tags, especially for files with no tags (recently ripped). Try the latest decoder plugin (1.6.4).

i have updated to latest version of FLAC and still there is a problem writing rating tags. other tags (e.g. track name) seem to be fine. i do have 'store in file tags' enabled for 'rating' field.

Hey Nick,
I am also running ver. 11.1.170 and lastest FLAC plug-ins but everything seems ok. Ratings field updates fine, whether is a new rip or on an existing file.
Just curios, how are you verifying that the tags have or have not been updated? Or even exist at all?
Also, I'm not sure I understand how you check tags in Explorer.
Do you mean on mouse hover on the file?
I only seem to get tag info while doing that with ID3 tag. Not Vorbis tags.
Is there another way?

hi wildcat
i have a program called dbpoweramp installed which means that when you hover over files in explorer, you get all of the tag info, including user defined tags in MC. there is also an option to edit tags on the right click menu which again brings up a list of all tags which are then editable. usually i get the rating info using both of these methods, but at the moment, no rating info is showing up. also i have some dj software which normally picks up rating tags, and this is not working for files i have recently tagged in MC with the latest versions of MC and FLAC plug-ins.

i dont think it is a dbpoweramp issue as my dj software rating tags are also not updating
filetype info in MC is not showing the rating tag for files recently tagged

MC added correctly the rating tag.
As a test, you could try some other file format (e.g. Monkey's Audio). The tag should look like this in File Type Info:
Media Jukebox: Rating: 3

ok, i went to test on an ape file and all worked fine, so then i went to retest on a FLAC file and there was a rating tag showing. i then updated tags from library and all of the ratings that i have recently altered are now showing up fine in the tags. i am not sure what has made the difference. i haven't altered the version of MC or the FLAC plugins. maybe i restarted MC and it was this that did it.
anyway, thanks for your help

Are you sure "Options/General/Importing & Tagging/ Update Tags When File info Changes" Is Checked?
I'm still curious what caused it!! ;D
Aslo Nick, What DJ software do you use. I have tried a few but have not found one I like. Any suggestions?
Peace

yes it is checked
i am using traktor dj studio 3, having previously used various versions of PCDJ. i am happy with it, using kontrol dj as a midi controller. the only issue is that tagging with FLAC files isn't fully supported yet, but they have promised to get it sorted asap.
