Title: Cracks In Recordings
Post by: Dieter on September 18, 2002, 11:18:50 pm
When recording from a RA internet audio file from the mixer, I occasionally get a loud cracking sound.  It usually occurs only once in a 30 minute session.

I have ESS Solo Drivers on a Compaq 5352 Presario, 256 MB RAM, 12 GB drives, 433 MHz processor, Win 98SE.

I also have the same problem when recording from tape using line-in.

Any suggestions?

You might try upgrading to a better sound card. Also, make sure nothing else is running while the recording is taking place (including screen savers, virus checkers, auto backup programs, etc.). You could de-frag your hard disk.

I installed TotalRecorder which installed its own device drivers instead of ESS.  Now the recordings work perfectly with no cracks.  Apparently, the problem is a result of the device drivers from ESS and not my hardware.
