Post by: mesue on April 09, 2006, 04:03:15 pm
Is there any way to close Media Server without using the tray icon?

No.

Okay. So are there any plans to fix the problem that Windows will not shut down properly until Media Server is closed manually?

I'm sorry, but I don't see this problem when using Media Server.  Did you report it earlier?

No, but I have seen it mentioned elsewhere in the forum. I think it's only when TiVo Server is also running.

Jim, I'm referring to:
Make sure that TiVo Server is not running - there is a know problem with TiVo Server not allowing Windows to shutdown.

At the moment, I don't know what to do about this. It is in the TiVo code, not in ours...

Fair enough... but if there was a command line way to close Media Server at least then I could write a script to shut down or restart my PC instead of having to click on the Media Server icon to close Media Server before doing the shut down routine. Currently I am using Windows' taskkill command in a shut down script, but when I use taskkill to close Media Center.exe, it thinks it's been shut down abnormally and then I get the abnormal shut down dialog the next time I start it.
