I hope someone can push me in the right direction... I wanted to play a RAM stream from
http://www.kcrwmusic.com/smil/metropolis.ram
and saw a few notes about MC11.1 playing Real Audio/Media _natively_. Thank the heavens, because you all know how invasive the RA software is... Anyways, I tried to play the files directly, due to my assumption of _natively_... Apparently I need to install some things...I found some mention of DirectShow in the help file, but the documentation for installing the files was a bit lacking. So if someone could push me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated!
From the MC Help: Supported Filetypes
** RealAudio files with the .ra extension will be played natively in Media Center if appropriate DirectShow filters are present. You will need to install “Real Media Splitter” (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=87719) and a Real Media Decoder such as FFDShow (http://ffdshow.sourceforge.net/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=Getting+ffdshow).
First: installed the FFDShow program. It runs, but there is no mention of RA or RAM when I look at the CODECs information page in that program.
Second: installed 7-Zip so I could unzip the latest .7z files from the realmediasplitter_20051125.7z at
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=87719
Third: extracted the files from that .7z file
Fourth: registered the MP4 Splitter with
regsvr32 "[path]\unicode\MP4Splitter.ax"
Fifth: reboot
Sixth: registered the Real Media Splitter with
regsvr32 "[path]\unicode\RealMediaSplitter.ax"
Seventh: tried to open a URL:
http://www.kcrwmusic.com/smil/metropolis.ram
and the usual Real Audio dialog came up claiming I needed to download the devil.
What am I doing wrong? Any push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated (I have been "off" Real Audio streams/files for some time now).
Many Mahalos.

I have RealAlternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm) installed and it works no problem. That any good to you?
-
It still won't play my .rax files. :(

Downloaded, installed, clicked on a .RAM link and it works great. Much thanks.
Download page from:
http://www.filesharingplace.com/downloads/real_alternative.php
FYI: the above list of compatible formats does not includes the .RAX as previous noted; perhaps someone should put in a feature request in with these guys. From the website:
-RealAudio (.ra .rpm)
-RealMedia (.rm .ram .rmvb .rpx .smi .smil)
-RealText (.rt)
-ReadPix (.rp)
-RealMedia content embedded in webpages
Thanks again for your generous help.
Aloha

MC 11.1 appears to play RealAudio Lossless files (.ra), but it doesn't read the tags properly.
