Title: What file format do I use for my Mom to be able to view on her TV/DVD at home
Post by: Chasoscar on April 09, 2006, 09:09:28 pm
I realize this is probably a simple maybe even dumb question but I honestly dont know. I just got a new digital camera that takes movies in .avi and .wmv formats and I burn the files to DVDs that I would like to send to my Mom. They play fine on my computer but she does not have a computer. She has a DVD player that she watches regular DVD movies on her TV. My question is do I need to do anything special to the files or setup of the burned DVD in order for her to be able to watch the movies using these two formats (.avi & .wmv)with her TV/DVD.
Thanks
C~

Unless her DVD player has some capability to play AVI Files (Some newer ones do)
then you'll need to convert the AVI Files in to DVD format.
I use a program called Win AVI Video Converter, which is quite good
There are a few others such as DVD Santa.

Be aware it requires heaps of processing time though
even on a relatively modern computer.
