Title: "Delete" - Request for Clarification
Post by: molarman on April 10, 2006, 07:34:43 pm
While in a playlist or in “Audio” view (but not “Playing Now”) when one highlights a song, and then hits the “delete” key, three possible options arise:

•   Delete song form library
•   Delete song and place in recycle bin
•   Delete song and permanently remove from hard drive

I believe this to be correct – and I understand it.  Here is where I am confused.  What happens when I highlight a song in “Playing Now” and hit the “delete” key?  I don’t get the options mentioned above, but something appears to take place.

It deletes the song from Playing Now (but not from you library).

And I'm not sure you got it quite right...

When you hit Delete in a Playlist, that song is removed from that playlist (but not from your library). Playing Now is basically just another playlist, so this behavior makes sense.

When you hit Delete in a View Scheme, then you are presented with the three options you listed. The end result is that song's removal from your library.

If you hit Shift+Delete anywhere, you are presented with the three options you listed. The end result is that song's removal from your library.

Exactly what I was hoping to learn.  Thanks!!!

The "delete" function in Playing Now should be renamed to "remove" or "remove from playing now" or something like that.

But if the "playing now" is a playlist, does a song's removal from "playing now" remove it from the playlist (assumig that the "shift" key is not utilized)?

Playing Now is not the same as the playlist you sent to Playing Now.

Playing Now is just a list of songs you're playing. If you send a playlist to Playing Now and then delete a song from Playing Now, it's only removed from Playing Now. It's not removed from the playlist.

something to think about also is in different countries words mean different things and some words have no conversion.

where we may think remove maybe better, that may not be in another language.

Okay.  One more question about deleting.

I have created a playlist based on certain criteria.  There is a certain song I do not want on the playlist, but I do not want to delete it from the library, nor do I want to delete it from the hard drive - I only want to remove it from this one playlist.  How do I do it?

Assuming it's a smartlist? You could add just that one file to another playlist (ie. "Banished"), and then just filter out that playlist from your smartlist.

You could probably also filter out that specific file, but I've never gotten the hang of using filenames and paths in smartlist rules. And using the playlist method makes it easier to keep other songs you don't want in that smartlist out in the future.
