Title: Restore Page cannot be found
Post by: Sabine on April 11, 2006, 12:37:05 pm
Hi,

I just ran a search on "restore page" and realized that a lot of people are battling with this one way or the other.

Well, when I try to go to https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/restore.cgi IE6 first seems to have found the website but then I get a "page cannot be displayed/cannot find server"

So I dont have access to Media Centre (11.1.161) anymore at all and am very frustrated after having tried all the suggested things from jmediacenter.com/buy_faq and from the forum.

Can somebody please point me in a direction which actually might work.
Thanks
Sabine

That's a problem.  Something isn't right on your PC or with your security settings in IE.  It's a secure page (https, not http).

Can anyone else confirm that the page works?

Page loads fine. Try yahoo mail and see if it loads fine.
Sabine, I think this might be a virus of somekind.
This virus is installed by some "Evil" websites you visit. but, I could be wrong.
I had the exact same problem I could not find the answer to it.
The virus simply prevents you from visiting secure websites.
The only way to get rid of this Virus is to format the HDD
However, some antivirus company may find the solution some day soon. :)

A workaround would be to restore on another PC, save the install key (it's in the directions for licenses), transfer it to the problem PC, then execute it.

Thanks for the input (had a good chuckle at the "evil" virus).

Sorry that I forgot to mention that I checked all the IE 6 settings for obvious stuff and am happily doing my banking, amazon (and other) internet shopping over secure servers happily off that machine. I also tried linking to the restore url on other PC's at my office and get the page error no matter from where I try it. If indeed it works for others, which I dont doubt, then there must be something in our default browser setup, which must be set/changed and I just need somebody to tell me what that might be. Also I tried via different ISP's to see that there isnt something that could be blocked from their side.

Please, help, thanks.

The restore page works fine for me.

It must be something in the software settings or then the used network configuration blocks the access.

As a test you could check the route your PC uses when it tries to access the rover.jriver.com address.

Open a command prompt, type this command:
tracert rover.jriver.com
and press enter.

Is the last server address it can list this:  zapout.jriver.com [204.29.156.66] ?  (my PC gets that far)

You mentioned that you are using an office LAN. Does your company or organization have a network administrator who could try to troubleshoot this problem?

This might help: try the URL http://rover.jriver.com/
It should appear with one line of text. If it does, the problem is in the httpS part (the secure protocol). If it doesn't, it is a firewall issue

Thank you everybody for your input and help.

I finally managed to get a PC from work to the license website and saved the .mjr file, which worked happily at home then.

Thanks again.
