Title: Sync to portable while transcoding fix
Post by: tomgrossi on April 20, 2006, 10:13:29 pm
I have a fix/feature request.,   I keep all my files in ape and transcode on the fly to mp3 for my iPod.  As a result, if I try to sync even ~1/4 of the songs that I know fit on my iPod over at once, MC tells me I don't have enough space.  Can you please change the space-check algorithm to work by looking at the total playtime being sync multiplied by an estimate of the compression level... or even 320kbps which would be closer than using the size of the ape file.   Thanks.  -Tom

Yep, have to admit I find this annoying too :-)

I still don't really understand why you can't just tell it you don't care - OK, complain that you've run out of space WHEN you actually run out of space, but don't make a calculation that's NEVER going to be right and then complain on that basis that it's not going to fit...

I tested with a 32mb SD memory card and syncing to it works fine.
I have three kids with Lyra MP3 players and syncing works fine for them.
My library is all APE as well.
This was a probelm I experienced last June and it was fixed back then.

I am running 172 right now.
