Is there a way to automatically include album art when burning a data cd/dvd?

No, but that's a good suggestion for version 12.

As long as it is an Option - not always done.

I use MC to burn MP3 discs for my car stereo..... When I burned with my usual burner software by selecting the folders I wanted, it also grabbed my folder.jpg files - and the stereo threw a fit.

But it is a good option for those looking to backup.
