Title: YADB & Cover Art
Post by: NickM on May 04, 2006, 08:37:40 pm
All the albums in my library have cover art.  About half way through, I stopped using Amazon, Wallmart or AllMusic and just scanned my own covers.  This gave a much better uniformity of quality, resolution and in fact took less time.

Having done this, can the cover art be uploaded to YADB?  If not, as I suspect, then it would most certainly be a HUGE improvement to the database service if it were incorporated.  I am sure that a few MC users would be able to populate a large number of the albums quickly.

I believe King Sparta's cover art finder already does that.

imjustagamer, my point is that the process of doing a DB look up - if indeed we are tied to YADB, could return both the disc information and the cover art in one single action ( and ensure they match ! )

makes alot of sense to me... from the chatter that's been on here recently it sounds like a lot of people would like to see updates to YADB anyway, maybe an overhaul is in order!! ;)

i think the reason has a multi reason

1. the source for the info is not the same
2. copyright reasons

King, I am not sure I follow your explanation...

Each disc has a unique ID that is related on a 1-to-1 basis with the release country - hence the cover art.

YADB v.2.0 need not "produce" it's own cover art, it could merely link to a site such as Amazon or Wall Mart ( who do have the copy right authorisation to distribute ).

Again, my point is that a single lookup process produces track information and cover art that match.

As i said the cover art comes from another source and not yadb

And there is a copyright issue for doing so there have been many sites and programs that have had a cease and desist order since the copyright holder for the cover art has not been paid.

if you read many of the back message threads some with comments from J. river about this issue.
