Title: OT?: Removing ITunesHelper.exe without removing ITunes
Post by: Mr ChriZ on May 14, 2006, 01:11:01 pm
This is slightly off topic but something that comes up here fairly regulairly
the removal of the ITunesHelper process and IPodService
I don't want to remove ITunes because every blue moon this strange
requirement occurs where I do actually need to use it.  However
I don't really want those 2 processes running all the time. (I'm cutting down,
on proccessed stuff).  :)
So I was just wondering if anyone found away of removing just those services?

Remove the iTunes entries from this registry branch:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Run > msconfig

A great tool for controlling your startup services and processes.

Just be sure that you don't enable or disable Microsoft services without knowing exactly what they do (or don't do).

Get Autoruns v8.51
It will show you anything and everything about what starts with Windows.
You can get info on any item.
Of course you can disable/enable items as well.

Free and excellent.

Much easier/safer than direct edit of the registry for this sort of thing.
