Has someone told Andy about the MC12 beta, so he can get G-Force working with it?
-
I'm concerned now that since I uninstalled MC 11 I have no way to get G-force back since they took down the download. I am not going to pay Soundspectrum another license. :-X

Here's the directory list of my gforce folder....
I can send you anything you want from it except the license.txt file :)
02/07/2006 16:24 <DIR> .
02/07/2006 16:21 <DIR> ..
06/08/2005 08:44 2,961,510 G-Force_301_Platinum.exe
24/12/2005 07:42 2,940,043 G-Force_310_Platinum.exe
16/01/2006 19:57 2,903,477 G-Force_312_Platinum.exe
07/02/2006 08:59 2,917,598 G-Force_313_Platinum.exe
11/06/2006 20:30 3,051,783 G-Force_355_Platinum.exe
06/08/2005 08:44 170,719 G-Force_Screen_Saver_101.exe
11/06/2006 20:30 190,314 G-Force_Screen_Saver_113.exe
12/06/2005 21:18 80 Liscence.txt
24/12/2005 07:42 659,777 WhiteCapHE_472.exe
15/03/2005 17:13 646,473 WhiteCap_474_SE.exe
It's quite possible that there's some versions missing between 313 and 355, I'm not sure. My guess is that 313 is the latest version I have that will work with your liscence?
-
I think you are right about 313, I did actually find a 3.0 version on a DVD backup, but it Doesn't recognize MC 12 in the install dialogue. I will need someway to get the plugin dll as well and place that in the MC plugins directory?
I am assuming you got g-force to work with MC 12?
Let me know where I can dowload the file(s).
Thanks
Marko

not got around to trying to get gforce to work with 12, no.
just got all my image files copied over to the test machine (gonna have to tag the tifs' from scratch though :()
got the ipod backed up and ready to test, but need to get some more music across first. test machine has no USB2 which is a pain, but there you go :)
if you uninstalled v11.1, you still might need the v313 and its screensaver if you re-install it. both installers are in this (http://www.theganghut.co.uk/files/mc/g-force.zip) zip file.
-
Thanks Marko,
I at least now have what I paid for. :)
CopiedT over the G-Force_JMC.dll into the same MC 12 directory, tried to initialize the plugin inside MC, even restarted but it did not work. I think Soundspecrtum has that on lockdown, and of course they will change 2 lines of code, then release g-force 3.6, which I am not going to pay $24 for. There gonna have make it 10 times better for me to pay again.

Has someone told Andy about the MC12 beta, so he can get G-Force working with it?
As much as I love G-Force (and certainly need it to be ported to MC12 eventually -- as a paying customer). I would honestly guess that it's still too early for Andy to start working on G-Force for MC12. It's apparent from some of Scthom's FLAC posts (and King's posts on his plugins) that the SDK is still in flux.
I wouldn't want him to waste time porting it, only to have JRiver need to change something that breaks it again (or, somewhat worse, want to and be afraid to). The Beta program is the time for experimenting... That's how they come up with better software for all of us!
-
Sorry about the off-topic... Perhaps we should try to consolidate our posts more and try to reduce clutter.
I moved my mpl posts here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=34535.0

In the interim, I've just been using the "stand alone" version of G-Force with MC12.
-
I got G-Force to work by doing the following:
Well, first of all, I still have MC11.1 installed on this machine and G-Force was installed for it.
Fire up regedit
Find the key : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Center 11\Plugins\Display\G-Force
Export that key somewhere
Edit the exported key in notepad and change Media Center 11 to Media Center 12
Save it
Then double click on it and allow it to merge into the registry.
Now you should have the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Center 12\Plugins\Display\G-Force
Then just restart MC and G-Force should be in the list of available display plugins. It's working great here.

Great idea Doof!!! Good work.
I would say that if that's all that is needed, then Andy should certainly be notified about the new version (so that future versions of G-Force can detect and work with MC12). I'd say we should let JRiver take care of that contact though... The secrecy and all that. ;)
-
I just did it myself, and figured I'd post the applicable Registry file so that others who want G-Force in MC12 (but who are too lazy to or too afraid to do the needed registry work) can just download and double click.
Instructions:
1. Download this file. (http://www.geocities.com/ri0n/mc/enable_G-Force_MC12.zip)
2. Unzip it to your desktop.
3. Close MC12 if it's running.
4. Double click on the new "enable_G-Force_MC12.reg" file.
5. Say yes to the Are You SureTM dialog that appears.
6. Reopen MC12 and enjoy G-Force.
Oh yeah, and you have to have G-Force installed for this to work. Duh!
-
sweet, you guys just pimped G-force!
does anyone know how to improve the performance of the viz, i.e. it looks choppy even in the small display screen?
thanks
-
Two options...
1) Buy a computer (CPU and GPU) that doesn't brain hemmorage. G-Force looks smooth as silk on my computers up to about 1280x1024 (and my main machine can go clear up to 1600x1200 without issue).
2) Turn down the resolution and features of G-Force using it's toolbar. Read the G-Force faq if you don't know how or what to turn down. (http://www.soundspectrum.com/g-force/faq.html#frame)
That's it.
-
I guess its an MC 12 thing then, as MC 11 was perfect for me.
Even changing the resolution and frame in the tool bar, and in the MC playing now (making it super small) doesn't help.
-
Now that I look into it, all my visualiztions are slow. I don't normally use them, except for G-force. I think someone else pointed this out too, no? Marko?
-
Mine are not. Hmmmmm..... If it's all of them (not all of them are graphically or computationally that intense), then something else must be going on.

It's been in my bug report since day dot.
Regular, 2D vizis are fine, it's just the 3D fellows that are crippled, running @ a painful 1-2 fps.
Is this gforce hack going to work on a clean gforce install with no MC 11.1 installed?
I guess that depends on the installer writing the correct CLSID entry.

I believe so, but I have not tested it. The CLSID does match between a few of my different machines (even different architectures -- AMD Athlon vs. Athlon64 vs. Intel P4). So....?
I have also not tested the 3D Visualizations at all. I don't like them (no offense, but they look hokey to me). My 2D Vizs and G-Force look Same As It Ever Was on my MC12 install.
-
@glynor:
I used Doof's hack, but had to reinstall G-Force before it worked in MC12. I also run MC11 and MC12 in parallel.
I had never reinstalled G-Force after MC12, so it was only recognized half-way without reinstalling G-Force. It G-Force screen appeared, but did not work the first time.

Nope. G-Force (Gold at least) won't install if it doesn't detect either MC10 or 11 installed on the PC. I had to reinstall MC11.1 specifically just to get G-Force to install, so I could then copy the registry file. Even if you have the registry file, it won't do you any good if G-Force won't install anywhere. I'm not sure what it looks for (maybe just a specific MC registry entry somewhere), so I'm not sure if you could fake it out or not.
-
Interesting. I still have MC12 and 11.1 "dual-installed" on my machine (and haven't put MC12 on any of the others yet except for temporary testing) so I wasn't aware...
Perhaps we are getting to the point where someone should have a brief talk with Andy. I know he is working on a new release of G-Force as we speak (there's a closed Beta program over there too). He'd probably prefer to make any needed changes sooner rather than later to support JRiver's new version...
That should really be up to JRiver folks to do though, IMHO.
-
I doubt he'd have to do anything to G-Force itself. It's just the installer that needs to be tweaked to look for MC12 as well.
-
I had MC 11.1 uninstalled and the G-force patch worked like a charm.

Then you must still have the G-Force_JMC.dll file in it's v11.1 install location.
I went through the registry on my test machine and exported the relavent CLSID, typelib, etc. keys, and copied the .dll from v11.1's viz folder.
Next, I edited all the path references in the reg files to reflect v12's viz directory, and transferred the lot over to this machine.
First, I close MC, install GForce for WMP only.
next:
Imported the reg file (I made a rare registry backup before hand)
Placed the gforce.dll in it's new home
Fire up MC and off we go....
-
I think I had previously copied the .dll in an attempt to get this to wrk, so that, in the end, paid off!!! ;D
-
just whiled away 20 minutes of my life playing with gforce....

I noticed that v12's display allows gforce much better access to the keyboard than its predecessor did, you see :)
Bugs? Eventually either Andy and/or JRiver will want to know.
So far, I see the transparent menu bug Doof's been posting, and an MC lockup if I try to go from gforce to MC's 3d vizis...
-
In my case G-Force works, if it is set from the beginning, but if I switch from G-Force to one of the other MC visualizations, MC12 crashes.
-
I emailed the developer that MC 12 beta was out. He is going to contact JR in the near future and incorporate any needed changes.
-
I thought I'd mention. G-Force 3.5.6 is now out (http://www.soundspectrum.com/g-force/Documentation/version-history.html) and supports MC12 out of the box. Thanks to Andy and JRiver for jumping on this quickly!
