This problem is confirmed on the nano and may possibly affect other models. The latest ipod updater 2006-06-28 when used with the RESTORE option creates a blank sysinfo file. This causes the ipod to be misidentified by MC. If you run the RESTORE from a previous ipod updater i.e. 2005-09-23 which you can get from here:
http://public.www.planetmirror.com/pub/apple/iPod/?fl=
Then run the UPDATE from 2006-06-28 instead of the RESTORE you will get a proper sysinfo file.
This appears to be an Apple bug.
Alternately you can use the attached file. Rename it to Sysinfo.zip and unzip it to get the nano sysinfo file.

FWIW, I get the following message if I try to view the attached sysinfo.txt file:
An Error Has Occurred!
It seems that you are not allowed to download or view attachments on this board.

Can someone who can read the attached sysinfo.txt post it here?
Thanks,
