There's an ongoing replay gain topic in the main MC forum.
MC doesn't have a playback gain adjustment for unanalyzed files (e.g. podcast, internet radio, CD audio).
Some other programs have it like this:

I suppose this would be easy to add.

It also does not apply album gain when there is no album assigned to a track tag. Shouldn't it simply revert back to the standard replay gain value if this is true about a song, rather than apply no RG or AG?

I have noticed this too. How did I forget to add it to my request?
It should work like this:
- Use Album Gain or Track Gain according to the selected option.
- If Album Gain is selected but unavailable use Track Gain instead.
- If both are unavailable use the user adjustable "Without RG info" value.
-
I think it is time to give this a gentle bump.
-
I would prefer to see an auto replay-gain on new files option.
-
You have a point. Since MC has an auto-importer perhaps it should be able to analyze the files automatically too. Obviously some people prefer auto-everything.
However, audio analysis is a heavy task and personally I would rather do it when suitable. In general, I prefer manual-everything.
Also, that would not solve the problem with files that don't have an album tag. I use always Album Gain, but when I play an occasional file that does not belong to any album I would like to MC use the Track Gain instead.

Wait until you start dealing with Podcasts. They get added to the library at any time with no input from you. Given the default sync criteria does not see a change to replay gain settings, this means that you have to remember to check for un-analyzed files before EVERY portable device sync to make sure no new un-analyzed files have slipped in.
The 'optional' part was for when I manually add a bunch of files and wanted to control the timing of the analysis.
-
I have configured podcast downloading to be manual. I start downloads when I prefer. After that I analyze the downloaded files.
BTW, how does the replay gain system work with a portable device? Obviously it is an iPod only feature. Is it limited only to track gain or is album gain also possible? Can you use it with AAC and MP3 files?
-
AFAIK, it works with both AAC and MP3. I also think it is only track gain. Honestly don't use it on the iPod right now as it has no 'boost' option and the volume to my headunit/headphones is way too low with Soundcheck enabled.
-
Bumping this up - can we please get 'otto-analyze' ? It'd also be nice to get some other things automatically after import, e.g. automatically set tag X to value Y.
-
As long as it is selectable.
I don't RG anything.

I agree with the automatic analyze task option. I had some MP3 files that I could have sworn I had analyzed but discovered later they weren't.
