Today I'm running MC on a single machine, setup as a HTPC machine (all music-files is stored locally here). Been using this for a year or so...
Now I've expanded my system-park with;
- a dedicated file server in my garage with a RAID5 setup containing all music-files (copied from the HTPC machine)
- a client designed for business use
- a client for 24/7 usage (noise cancelling to the max).
My question is this:
Can I setup the 24/7 Client to be the "media server", accessing the files on the File-server WITHOUT loosing any statistics that are located on today’s existing setup on the HTPC?
A backup of the media-library on the HTPC will backup the statistics, but will it be portable to another unit like the 24/7 client? (where the media-files will have a different source - the file-server).
The dream setup would then be:
- keeping all the statistics from my previous setup
- a dedicated file-server with raid5 in the garage (the file-server unit)
- 3 pc's running different setups with all access to the media-server
Can anyone help me with some tips/solutions?
Regards,
Marius

If you have 11.1, have you explored the Library Server? It's under Services and Plug-ins in the tree on the left.
Media Server (under Tools/Advanced) can be set to start up with Windows and will run any servers that you've configured to start. It runs a very small copy of MC.
More info can be found in the Help and on this board.

Yes, I have the latest version of course.
and yes, I'm planning to use the library server function.
This is not answering my question about keeping the statistics (while changing PC) and still move the files to another location.
Possible or not? ...that's THE question

There are a lot of relatively easy ways to do that with MC. You can keep all library data intact, not just the statistics. I have written about this topic several times.
You may want to search my forum post during the past two years or so.
Also, you could post a detailed example of how you would like to change the location(s) so that I could give you specific instructions.
