Title: QUESTION: Removing "Shuffle Mode"
Post by: Matt on July 28, 2006, 03:32:11 pm
Currently MC has:

How would it work if we only had "Reshuffle".  For adding to Playing Now in a shuffled manner, the Send To > Play menu has lots of possibilities.

For everyday use, the mode part doesn't seem necessary as long as tapping the shuffle button gives shuffled playback.

Any thoughts?

That would be fine for me. I always play my music shuffled and reshuffle PN every now and then.

While we are at that... could you consider a small modification on the reshuffle PN? This has been requested many times before: The option to "Reshuffle all" and "Reshuffle remaining songs".

For instance, you are in PN listening to a list. You've been adding some more tracks at the end of the list and at a given moment you want to reshuffle the list so that the recently added have more chance to be listened very soon. Currently, if you don't delete from PN the already played songs, those will be also reshuffled. You normally do not want to hear them again. What you want is to reshuffle the still not played songs. To achieve that, you have first to manually delete the already played and then perform the reshuffle, which is a pain mainly if you don't have a keyboard available at that time.

Would that be very difficult to implement?

Thank you.

Could you use this:
Right click > Send To > Play > Add (shuffled)

Yes, this is fine if you add new songs (By the way, are you sure that they are always added further down the currently playing song?) but does not help if you're at song 36 of 275 in PN and you want to reshuffle.

I would regret if it dissapears.

My playing now mode is always in shuffle mode.

Whenever I double click on a "Genre" for example, all my files are shuffled automatic without thinking to shuffle my playing now.

It was convenient, but can live without it, it's just something to get used to.

Alright, then we'll leave it.  Just stirring the pot on a Friday.

It proably should stay. When I was a newbie here, I used that button alot until I found and got used to using the "shuffle" in the right click menu.

But I do like the idea of the two choices: all, or tracks remaining.

I'd like to see the 'shuffle unplayed' option myself

You could go in the opposite direction, and give the shuffle mode more meaning,  maybe a party shuffle but with smartlist capabitlites based on the currently playing song...

shuffle unplayed would be very welcome here too.

I've been experimenting a little bit with this option and, although it adds the tracks shuffled to PN, it seems that always adds them at the end of the list instead of scattered around the unplayed tracks.

I wonder if Shuffle should return the tracks back to their
unshuffled order if turned off?
