Title: canon digital ixus 700 .avi files.

any ideas as to why adobe photo downloader is able to aquire .avi video files from the camera, but MC can't?

The literature that came with the camera states that if the user does not use the supplied software to manage the camera, then this would be one of the caveats he/she would have to accept.

I accepted that and rejected the supplied software. I was impressed to discover that adobes photo downloader also grabbed the avi files, and Canon dropped points for including scare tactics to get users to use their software.

Perhaps it should be respect to adobe for working around whatever the problem is? MC can't get the .avi files. Could it be forced/made to?

Nice camera.

Do you know if it shows as a drive or does it use WIA for communication?

It shows up in My Computer under "Scanners and Cameras" so, that would be WIA, I think?

Could MC's problem with .avi files also be related to its inability to count the total number of pictures being downloaded?
When MC is aquiring photos, the AW always reads "File 1 of ??" "File 2 of ??" etc. etc. which is something else that's always felt a bit odd.

I see that a fix for this is listed under build 127...

Sadly, 'tis not working for me. How frustrating is that!!!

The camera shows up in "My Computer" in the "Scanners and Cameras" section. MC queries the camera for a while, then reports "aquiring 1 of ??" then closes and doesn't import or download anything.
