Title: Media Server problem
Post by: mariusm69 on August 02, 2006, 04:54:45 am
Hi, I have 3 PC's involved in this.

PC 1 have MC v11.1.188 (registered) and has the role as the media server. Media server is running in the background. The media files is located on PC 3
PC 2 have MC v11.1.188 (registered) and is the typical client that will access PC 1's media library
PC 3 don't have MC installed. Only media-files is located here.

All are running on the same local network. PC 1 and 2 is WinXP SP2 and PC 3 is Windows 2000 Server SP4

Problem;  when PC 2 is trying to "Search For Media Servers" the response is:

"Failed to find local Media Server"
and
"Media Center failed to load the library "Search for Media Servers" and will attempt to load the previously selected library".

Update: Firewalls are disabled, and I have tried port 80 and others. Same result

Can anyone help me please ?   ?

Have tried to read myself to the solution here but did not find it yet.

Make sure Library Server is enabled.

"Media Server" is a mode that runs your serving plug-ins in the background.
"Library Server" is the plug-in that actually shares your music.

OK, gettin' sound now. Thanks for the tip. Allmost there now  ;D

Next problem is updating cover art from the clients (eg. PC 2)

Can't update cover art from PC 2 (merging art into tags).

Any way to work this problem out ?  If not, then it's a silly "bug" because the user would like the convenience to update the cover art from anywhere, including clients.

The error message says:
Media Center encountered errors while tagging and moving files. Check that the file exists, and not read-only, and are not in use by other programs.

Well, the OTHER MC is using the files, but what can I expect then it's THE SERVER ?

Any help would be very welcome

Clients can only update playcounts on the server.
No other modifications to the database can be made from a client machine.
It's read only.

Thanks. That shuts me up for now...

Too bad, but now I know     :-X

A feature I would welcome in a future release if possible (at least the possibility to select/deselect write access from client to server)
