What do you think?

Maybe, certain things like text, would not be translucent at all to better help readabilty.

Mock up looks pretty cool...

Next build will add skin configurable alpha for menus.
Alpha of the bottom list is tricky, because you're covering the scrollbar(s) which is a big usability issue.

I saw that too. Hmm, do you need the scroll bar to extend past the bottom list, the user obvisouly wouldn't have any need to select it down there? I'm sure you know though! ;D I guess that would be the tricky part, not making it extend.
Btw, I believe I chose a 90% gradient, I think.

Another spit polish feature that should be added, is drop shadows in all menus like in Windows XP.

Doof made a comment last night along the lines that this transparency stuff should be a selectable option within the 'skin effects' area.
I agree with the sentiment.

Marko, believe me, I'm against anything new myself, but I think these translucent menus are good looking. IMO, they add a touch of refinement to large menu plasters, such as "tag (window)/tag/show specific tags/more tags". By the time you've got all those billboards displayed things can get to looking unweildy. I think translucency relieves some of that visual weight.
One request: Can we mnake the menu type bolder/darker? I use bold fonts which do not carry over to the menus, so that there is a bit of a readability issue when using bold fonts. I hope you keep the translucency and just darken down the type a bit.
Good one, Dude!

mr. green, I'm not against it, I just don't really want to open a load of main.xml files to get the transparency into other skins.
I made the edit for opus MC (blue), reloaded the skin, and then felt the need to go back and drop the Data Alpha value down to 210. Reloaded again, looks better now.
In skin effects, we could perhaps have a slider to set the value.

Hear, hear! I think that's a grand idea.
I don't tweak many things that require editing files. If there is a slider or other control I like to play.

Thanks for bringing this up. I didn't feel like re-typing my whole post on it. ;)
